Ces petits visages miniatures servaient d'amulette pour assurer la protection de la personne le portant contre les forces néfastes et les aléas du destin.

Répliques miniatures des masques Pendé, ces amulettes étaient aussi censées favoriser la guérison des malades ( (DP Biebuyck 1985)

These small miniatures served as amulets to insure the protection of the person that carrying it against the fatal forces and the fate.

It was also supposed to favor the cure of the patients.
