Objetcts that we present to you one acquired in preoccupations with an equity with the salesmen, whether they are village or tradesmen. Here more than 15 years that we go regularly in the villages and that we are known for serious our transactions. And very often they are the salesmen themselves which come to propose their parts to us.

- Are the purposes sold ancient ?
First of all, in African art there isn't a lot of pieces aged more than 100
years.
Thoses are all in museum, and you may buy some in great auctions in Sotheby's
Christie's, Drouot etc... with expensive prices...
So the concept of old is relative. Main
reason :
masks, statues, are often in wood. And there is a lot of insects in Africa
that like wood as termits... African people have to carve new pieces
that will replace the older...
Then, 3 kinds of pieces should be distinguished :
- pieces brought back to Europe by collectors at the beginning of
1900, and which we could recall the history.
Bought by Mr X , resold to Mr
Y, repurchased by another collector, then by a museum.
These pieces have a rich certificate of authenticity..
- a second market, on wich we are :
We collect in Togo, Mali, Ivory Coast & Benin some great pieces from local
antique dealers.
Those antique dealers are gathering object from small
villagse all along the year.
They do know what we are looking for, and what we
are going to buy it for a good price.
It is sometime real old pieces beetween 60 & 100 years, but mostly aroud 30
& 60 years.
- and a third market :
Tourist brand new objetcts, no comments...
