A Jocolo is a five-paneled apron worn on important ceremonial occasions by married women.
It is the initial symbol of the married status and is prepared for the woman by her husband-to-be, from a goatskin.
It is worn un-beaded for the first several months of marriage. The next jocolo she wears may be trimmed with a simple edge of beads.
Often the bride's mother-in-law makes her a magnificent jocolo resplendent with beads. Later the young matron may make a more modern jocolo for herself.
