Among the Yaka powerful figures(nkisi) have different titles according to their purpose

The most important Nkisi are known as Nkisi Mbwoolo and Nkisi Khosi.

Figures are not considered complete or powerful until given energy through the application of the magical substances into a stomach cavity, or placed as power equipment around the waist of the figure.

Yaka figures like this are magically switched on’ by the nganga Mbwoolo or Ngana Khosi, the local ritual specialist after which they will be addressed and given offerings that through time add to the power that the figure contains.
