The Ngeende are a sub-tribe from the Kuba people of RDC-Zaire, they make over twenty different types of ceremonial masks.�

This men's iniation mask has a double function, when it's called pwoon itok it represents a wise old man and is used during men's initiation rites.

This mask is called pwoom itok or shene malula.�

If it is called shene malula, then it is used to reinforce proper behavior and to catch lawbreakers.
