Of all times the peoples had appeal to the barter to be able to exchange possessions.
Then appeared the first system of real currency, the small shells called Cowries.
All the presented currencies were used for finalizing deals between the individuals or the tribes.
They could be also used, to buy animals, consumer goods or be of use as dowry to a marriage.
They also have been worn as adorment, and were transmitted in the familly.
According to Ch. Optiz, items to be considered as money should have the majority but may not have all of the below characteristics to be considered as money. These basic characteristics are :
