The Ngeende are a sub-tribe from the Kuba people of RDC-Zaire, they make over twenty different types of ceremonial masks.Â
This men's iniation mask has a double function, when it's called pwoon itok it represents a wise old man and is used during men's initiation rites.
This mask is called pwoom itok or shene malula.Â
If it is called shene malula, then it is used to reinforce proper behavior and to catch lawbreakers.
